The main drag runs between Venables Street and East 12th Avenue. You can travel here by using the SkyTrain to get to the Commercial Drive or Broadway stations, or by catching bus number 20. Since Commercial Drive is outside the main tourist areas of the city, it's a great place to meet and hang out with locals—so make sure you take some time to walk around the neighbourhood and explore by foot. Looking for some adventure? You've come to the right city. No matter what time of year, when you start your day in Vancouver, it can take you anywhere. Calling all shopaholics! From independent designers and high-fashion labels to global retailers and coastal-lifestyle brands, shopping in Vancouver is all about diversity—which is what you should expect from Canada's only major metropolitan city on the Pacific Coast. Vancouver is Canada's playground and its proximity to the ocean, mountains and forest is reflected in almost every facet of the city's culture. You'll be hard pressed to find a more beautiful shopping destination in any other major city in North America. As most travelers know, neighbourhood shopping is a great way to discover a city. It's also a great way to meet some of the people who live here. We also are home to Metrotown, the second largest mall in Canada—so for all you one-stop, shop-till-you-drop visitors, we've got you covered too. In this video, we wanted to give visitors a quick overview of Vancouver's shopping scene. Here are a list and some additional quick facts about the neighbourhoods and shopping centres we featured. Special thanks to Kildare Curtis from Eugene Choo and Nicole Durnin from LYNNsteve Boutique for their insight and advice. 1) Main Street The best shopping areas here are on Main Street between 8th to 12th Ave and 16th and 33rd. In these areas, you'll find boutiques, vintage clothing, bookstores and home design retailers, along with fantastic coffee shops and restaurants. This is one of my favourite places to shop in the city. 2) West 4th Ave (Kitsilano) This street runs above to Kitsilano Beach, which is worth a trip in its own right. The intersection at Burrard St and West 4th Ave is a great place to start. Here you'll discover ski, snowboarding, yoga and other coastal lifestyle stores. Head west on West 4th and you'll come across great shoe stores, restaurants and specialty retailers. 3) Pacific Centre This shopping centre is located right in the heart of downtown Vancouver and stretches for three city blocks—under and above ground—between Robson St and West Pender St. You'll find familiar stores here, including Holt Renfrew, H&M and many others. 4) Oakridge Centre This is a popular shopping destination thanks to its proximity to Richmond and the Vancouver International Airport. It's also easily accessible by the Canada Line-YVR SkyTrain. This shopping center definitely has an upscale vibe and it features many luxury brand retailers. 5) Metropolis at Metrotown This is the kind of mall where time stops and with over 450 stores and services, that's a good thing! Located in Burnaby, you can quickly travel here on the Expo and Millennium SkyTrain lines. Get off at Metrotown Station. 6) Luxury Brands Although luxury brand retailers are located throughout the city, a good place to start your search is where Burrard St intersects Alberni St downtown. You should also check out the Sinclair Centre at West Hastings St and Granville St. Make sure to explore the surround area. 7) Yaletown Newly gentrified, Yaletown is Vancouver's trendy and upscale warehouse district. What used to be loading docks are now sidewalks. You'll find great fashion, home design, and skin care retailers here. Start your visit by exploring Hamilton St and Mainland St between Nelson St and Drake St. 8) Gastown Best boutiques, best furniture stores and best restaurants...sure I'm biased, but this is my neighbourhood, so I should be! There are also great art galleries and as well as a long strip on Water Street where retailers sell classic Canadian souvenirs. 9) Robson Street This is Vancouver's premiere shopping and strolling area. It's a great place to shop or to sit for a meal and people watch. In addition to the large global brands, make sure to check out Canadian retailers like Lululemon Athletica, which was founded and is still based here in Vancouver.

Woo To See You We live in a city that is so diverse, including when it comes to fashion. Take Woo To See You for example, where East meets West to create the ultimate Vancity fusion boutique. Woo to See You is trendy and fun and carries clothing, shoes, accessories and funky trinkets in between! Definitely worth a big “wooooo!" http://wootoseeyou.com/ 3.Hollywood Boutique 9/10 times if you catch a girl walking around Yaletown wearing a chic and sexy little number, she bought it at Hollywood Boutique. This boutique is Yaletown’s hottest fashion boutique for pieces that are classy, sassy, and geared towards a babe that appreciates glamorous, modern, and high-fashion pieces. Definitely Hollywood-worthy. https://www.facebook.com/HOLLYWOOD.BOUTIQUE.YALETOWN 2. Oak + Fort Thoughtful, uncomplicated, and versatile - this is oak and fort. Oak + Fort lands in our number two spot because they cater to the fashionista that is detail-oriented and that cares more about durability and versatility - as opposed to solely being trendy. Because fashion should always be timeless. https://www.oakandfort.ca/ 1. The Latest Scoop The Latest Scoop is definitely our pick for most trendy boutique! They’re LA in the city and offer designs that are sweet, sexy, sophisticated and always ahead of the curve. This marks the first ever Max Mara Bridal shop in North America. Fairytale. Romantic. Contemporary. Ethereal. Dreamy yet modern. Fashionable. Simple and essential. Ultra-sophisticated. Discreet. Ladylike. Easy & glamorous. There are so many ways -- some of them apparently contradictory -- to accurately describe Max Mara Bridal. A collection that has become increasingly popular with women for a philosophy that applies the modern pret-à-porter concept to the robe de mariée or wedding dress. Dresses that are available today -- without having to try on endless types -- directly in bridal boutiques, in a wide range of models and variety of sizes and colours. Gradually created as an evolution of the Max Mara evening wear line in response to the needs and requests of numerous customers, the collection has proved increasingly successful, becoming a complete range featuring over 30 models a season - from new styles to evergreen classics. The models are complemented by a range of sophisticated extras and accessories, such as head-pieces, tiaras, veils, gloves, jewel minaudières, crystal rivières or elegant bijoux flowers. Thrilling bridal dresses, designed to ensure a perfect look for the big day, whether it be an outdoor party or a reception for a select few. An array of fabulous models to explore in the elegant atmosphere of the Max Mara store, ready to welcome brides-to-be along with their best friends or mothers with a special personalised wedding shopper service. The days of the lengthy trying-on session are numbered, and while Max Mara has retained its professional dressmaker philosophy, this service is now offered in a modern, more functional environment, where finding the perfect dress is an enjoyable, stress-free experience. Max Mara, the premiere collection of the Max Mara Fashion Group, is the epitome of Italian style and luxury; a confident and contemporary collection of tailored silhouettes, sumptuous fabrications and couture details applied to ready-to-wear. Known for stylish coats, form-skimming separates, sharp suits and elegant accessories, Max Mara, was founded by the late visionary Achille Maramotti in 1951. The collection is now available in 2,279 locations in 100 countries and was the first of 21 collections under the Max Mara umbrella. The company remains privately held and managed by the Maramotti family. **Try selecting 720p in the settings area at the bottom of your YouTube viewing window. We know you like to look good. So do we.** Looking for some adventure? You've come to the right city. No matter what time of year, when you start your day in Vancouver, it can take you anywhere. This summer, Steve and I joined the Vancouver Pride Society during Vancouver Pride Week to help connect LGBT visitors to our city's two queerest neighbourhoods: Davie Street Village and Commercial Drive. Okay okay. I know the socio-political landscape in many cities, including Vancouver, has changed and that gays and lesbians now live everywhere, not in just one or two locations. But still, if you're a new visitor to Vancouver and looking to find other queers and our city's queer culture, Davie Village and the Drive are great places to start your search. Commercial Drive is very popular with queer women of all ages and is also the historical home of Vancouver's Italian community. Let's face it: dykes and hot coffee are pretty much a match made in lesbian heaven and the Drive has plenty of both. This neighbourhood is very gay-friendly, featuring a variety of clothing boutiques, tattoo parlours, bars, restaurants, theatres, markets and stores. Located in the heart of Vancouver's West End, the Davie Street Village is literal heart of Vancouver's LGBT scene. Here you'll find stores like Little Sisters Bookstore, which has fought for gay rights and freedom of speech for all Canadians since the 1970s. This is also home to many of the cities gay bars and nightclubs, as well as gay-friendly hotels, restaurants and boutiques. Another reason to check out Davie Street: English Bay and Sunset Beach are a quick five minutes down the hill. There's a reason why Vancouver is known as the Canadian Riviera. Vancouver Pride traditionally takes place during the last week of July. The Vancouver Pride Parade draws thousands upon thousands of spectators annually, which makes it one of the largest parades in North America. Pride is a great time of year to visit, but Vancouver is truly a year-round LGBT destination. If you haven't heard, we have some of the best skiing in the world as well as the WinterPRIDE festival in Whistler. You also might want to check out the Vancouver International Playhouse Wine Festival in the spring. One last thing: queers can legally marry here, so don't forget to bring your sweetheart. Here is a list of queer-owned/queer-friendly businesses we visited or profiled in this video: Commercial Drive 1) Cafe Havana Bar and Grill [http://www.cafehavanali.com] 2) St. Augustine's [http://staugustinesvancouver.com] 3) Timbre [http://www.timbrerestaurant.com] 4) Cafe Deux Soleil [http://www.cafedeuxsoleils.com] 5) Womyn's Wear [http://www.womynsware.com] 6) Donald's Market [http://www.donaldsmarket.com] Davie Village 1) Fingertips Salon 2) 1181 Tight Lounge [http://www.1181.ca] 3) Oasis [http://oasisondavie.com] 4) Fountainhead [http://www.thefountainheadpub.com] 5) Numbers [http://www.numbers.ca] 6) Junction [http://www.junctionpub.com] 7) Score [http://scoreondavie.com] 8) Celebrities Nightclub [http://www.celebritiesnightclub.com]

This generates a high quality of life that attracts immigrants and visitors alike. FROM MILL TOWN TO CANADIAN METROPOLIS When Captain George Vancouver entered the straight of Georgia in 1792 and explored Burrard Inlet, he saw nothing but a gigantic forest of pine trees on the opposite shore. Loggers were the first settlers and a sawmill was built on the southern shore of the bay in 1865. Two years later John Deighton built a saloon nearby, around which a small settlement named Granville grew. When the Canadian Pacific Railway selected Granville as the terminus of the first transcontinental railway line, the settlement became known far and wide. From then on the little town of Granville, which in 1886 was officially re-baptized “Vancouver”, began its precipitant rise. As far as food is concerned, Vancouver has a well-established reputation as a gastronomic Mecca. The range of theatres, cinemas, museums and concert halls is also substantial. The city’s charm has attracted thousands of immigrants from the four corners of the globe, who have given Vancouver its multicultural character. There are numerous islands just off the coast. The largest of them, Vancouver Island, is easily reached by ferry from the mainland. It’s capital, Victoria, is noted for its very English atmosphere and is well worth a visit. In winter, the snow-covered slopes of the nearby mountains exert their own special attraction. In short, this is a city where no one is bored.

Commercial Drive is home to an exciting mix of independent cafes, restaurants, and boutiques. After all, "The Drive" is arguably the most diverse and colourful neighbourhood in Vancouver. It's also ground zero for many of Vancouver's largest festivals, including Illuminares, the Dyke March, Italian Day, the Vancouver Poetry Festival, the Parade of Lost Souls, East Side Pride and Car-Free Day. Three words that come to mind when I think of Commercial Drive: coffee, coffee, coffee. In addition to the many independent coffee shops, you'll find some of the best Italian espresso bars in the city here, as well as a number of Italian delis, bakeries, and markets. Although this neighbourhood used to be known as Vancouver's "Little Italy," today's Commerical Drive is a melting pot of cultures and cuisines. In addition to the great Italian dining, there is also Caribbean, Latin, Ethiopian, Middle Eastern, Greek, Japanese, West Coast and many other ethnic options. Outdoor markets are great places to shop for picnic items to take to Grandview Park or John Hendry Park at Trout Lake. Don't forget to leave some room for a lip-smacking craft beer. Many of the bars feature draft and by-the-bottle offerings by local breweries that aren't to be missed. Read the full neighbourhood profile of Main Street, Vancouver on ypnexthome.ca: http://bit.ly/1P9hyD8 South Main has everything: incredible amount and variety of eateries, bars and cafes of every nationality and price point, funky boutiques, amazing parks, and an abundance of community resources and services. It also has predictably expensive real estate – however, there are many multi-family options being developed that might provide more affordable options than a single-family home. Breakfast Television Host Jody Vance takes us on a tour of Main Street.
